Most car decals you see around town are cut vinyl decals. Below are instructions on how to apply cut vinyl decals:
Step 1 - Clean the surface
This is by far the most important step in the process of installing a cut vinyl decal. Your installation is only as good as the surface it's being installed on. Windex TM is a great surface cleaner and will remove most types of dirt, paint and grime. Alcohol and alcohol wipes also make a great surface prep application. Clean your surface completely before beginning your installation. |

Step 2 - Separate decal from backing
The decal will have 3 parts to it; the backing, the decal itself, and the pre mask that holds the decal together. Remove the decal from the backing by peeling off the pre mask. When peeling, the decal should release from the backing relatively easy. If it seems to stick a bit, rub the pre mask down on the decal and try to peel it again. |

|
Step 3 - Inspect the decal and the pre mask
After you have peeled the decal and the pre mask from the backing, it's very important to inspect the decal to make sure that the entire decal came off of the backing. Hold the decal with the reverse (sticky) side towards you and verify that all of the design that was on the backing has come up with the pre mask. If not, save the backing to place individual pieces after installation. |

Step 4 - Install the decal and the pre mask
With the peeled decal attached to the pre mask, place it sticky side down on the prepared surface. Use even pressure with your thumb, squeegee or credit card to adhere the decal to the surface. Work from the middle of the decal out to the edges with light pressure at first and gradually increase the pressure. This will yield the best results and will allow the decal to push out any air that may be trapped underneath. |
|
 |
|
Step 5 - Remove the pre mask
After the decal has been firmly installed, remove the pre mask from the surface. This step must be done with caution so that the decal itself doesn't get removed in the process. The best way is to grasp the pre mask by one corner, and apply smooth but firm pressure on the pre mask not only up, but to one side. Go slow, and if the decal starts to lift, stop, apply pressure to the pre mask in the spot the decal is lifting to adhere the decal back down to the surface. Windex TM can also be applied to the pre mask before it's removed to help soften the adhesive on the pre mask. |

Step 6 - Enjoy the finished product
Your decal is now installed! Sit back, tell your friends how cool you are, give them our web address, tell them we are the best, and most importantly, go put your decals everywhere! Decals can be removed rather easily, so if you stick them somewhere you shouldn't, peel them up from the corner of each letter or design and if they are stubborn apply some heat with a hair dryer or a heat gun. |
